South West voluntary sector organisations have been rewarded for their quick response to a new government funding initiative. The Transition Fund programme was launched last autumn with a deadline for applications early in 2011, and is aimed at helping "front-line service providers" from the region's community and voluntary sector organisations adapt to the massive changes in funding that have arisen from last year's government spending review. A total of £15m was available across England of which South West organisations will receive £2.2m (14.75%). The Dorset Partnership for Older People Programme (POPP) is an excellent example of a multipartnership initiative that has successfully achieved engagement on a huge scale and empowered older people to become involved in identifying and shaping services and activities to improve their own health and address their wellbeing needs.
