This report describes in detail the research recently undertaken to increase the flow of investment into community initiatives and social ventures, and demonstrates how an organisation can successfully raise finance, at low cost to them, via a community share issue.
This model has the potential to release an untapped flow of investment into social and community ventures and enable more communities to acquire their own assets.

Welcome to Wessex Reinvestment Trust (WRT)
We exist to help communities in the South West of England become more sustainable. We do this by providing:
Business Loans to people who want to start or develop small businesses. To find out more, click here
Home improvement loans to people who want to bring their houses up to a decent standard, but do not have the money to do so. To find out more, click here
Advice about how villages and small towns can own land, and develop it for the benefit of their communities. They can do this using Community Property Trusts. To find out more, click here
We are an organisation which has been set up to help rural communities become more sustainable. We believe that, to do this, people in those communities need to have access to land, buildings, and finance. They also need to be able to make decision themselves about how those resources are used, to benefit everyone.
We are a social enterprise, which is governed by people from a large number of different organisations, working in local food development, sustainable building and business, social housing. We have strong links with local government, banks, business links, the Countryside Agency and charitable trusts. Click here for a list of our partners and funders.
As part of the investment work Wessex is doing, we are exploring ways of attracting finance for social enterprises. For details of this please refer to the New Financial Mechanisms page.
