Our learning programme aims to spread the word about the best ways to build the skills, knowledge and experience of the people in the region who are working to create sustainable communities, places where people really want to live and work. See full info about Learning.
In 2006 we developed our definitions of eight real ways of learning for the sustainable communities sector. During 2007-8 we piloted a number of opportunities to trial these learning opportunities. These real ways of learning include mentoring, multi-disciplinary learning, action learning sets, shadowing, networking, masterclasses, study tours and project visits. Find out more about each real way of learning and see case studies which outline the benefits of these approaches to learning for those taking part and their organisations.
We want our learning events to be accessible to all those involved in sustainable communities work see our participation fund leaflet for more information. We also have a bursary fund to enable attendance at events outside the South West. This can also be used to bring outstanding speakers to events in this region. See the bursary fund leaflet for more information.
At heart we all know the importance of good leadership. We all remember our best and worst boss, the leadership that inspired us and the leadership that made us want to take a ‘duvet day'.
There is now a formal acknowledged need for better leadership skills if we are to achieve sustainable communities. The Egan Review and a number of other research and policy papers have identified leadership and management skills as core to improving our results. As a response to this need we are bringing together information about leadership courses and events, particularly those focused on the public and voluntary and community sectors, on a dedicated page. We hope that you will find something to inspire you to rejuvenate your leadership skills.
