Healthy People Healthy Places: The local authority role in public health
In recent years there has been a resurgence of public health work in local government, with multi-agency working between local government, the NHS and other key partners across a wide range of policy areas and service delivery. Local government scrutiny has also provided more local accountability of Public Health activities. However, the general election may trigger significant changes in the working relationship between public health and local government. Wirral Healthy Schools programme

First Public Hearing of the South West Select Committee's Transport Inquiry Announced
MPs on the South West Select Committee will be in Bristol on Monday 26 October to hold the first public hearing in the Committee's transport inquiry. Viewpoint: Killing NHS Direct ? Something Tells Us This Is Very Wrong
Ambiguous statements aside, it looks as if the experiment in outreach called NHS Direct is coming to an end.
The recently axed Audit Commission is concerned that some £9 million of financial errors due to incorrect clinical coding has been spotted in NHS accounts.
Confusion seems to be the prescription around the status and likely future of the Web based part of the NHS Direct patient care information service.
