Identifying the Regeneration Opportunity

A group of local residents are annoyed by an area of wasteground backing onto their gardens. The site has become an eyesore, with fly-tipping, dog fouling, abandoned shopping trolleys and makeshift ramps created by the local skateboarders and BMX riders. Young children and youths play around the area. The skateboarders have become a hazard, but have nowhere else to go. The residents strongly suspect that the wasteground is becoming a target for drug dealers.

The residents decide that it is time to act.

They talk to their local council, who turn out to own the land. They suggest the group comes forward with a project to make the site into something useful and perhaps provide the young with something to do.

The council suggests that the residents' group contacts Creating Excellence for ideas and advice. One of the local residents takes the initiative and logs on to the Creating Excellence website.
