About SELD

Quality evidence, intelligently used, tells us the what, when, where, who and how to deliver effective regeneration, to create places people want to live and work and maintain sustainable communities. It shows us the best way to proceed and guides us through the complexity of delivering sustainable improvements in our most deprived neighbourhoods and communities.

What is Evidence? Evidence can be data, information, knowledge or understanding. It can be numerical or narrative, it helps us make better decisions and learn how to do things better next time. From accurately identifying an issue or problem, targeting the right intervention, reviewing its effectiveness or evaluating impact, evidence is essential for understanding exactly what the problems is, what the best solution might be, how to plan an approach, and whether or not that approach is working. Poor use of evidence leads to poorly targeted, ill-conceived projects, plans and strategies, wasted resources, and failure to deliver effectively.
