SELD Evaluation Resource Guide: What is Evaluation?

There is often some confusion about what exactly “evaluation” is. To clarify this from the outset, let’s briefly define what we mean by evaluation in this context.

Quite simply, an evaluation is a study or piece of research which has a distinctive purpose. That purpose is usually to assess the effects and effectiveness of something, typically some innovation or intervention: policy, practice, service or approach.
