SELD Evaluation Resource Guide: South West Organisations

Creating Excellence is the South West's regeneration centre of excellence (RCE) which provides various resources and support specifically for those working in regeneration in the South West region.

The Evaluation Trust was founded in 1990 to promote and undertake participatory evaluation. They value a community development approach advocating evaluation in a way that encourages ownership of the process and learning by the organisation concerned. They encourage organisations to be involved in developing the evaluation questions, undertaking the work, and analysing, reflecting and implementing the findings. They operate principally in the South West but also undertake evaluation for national and international organisations.

South West Observatory Skills & Learning Intelligence Module (SLIM) maintains a database of good practice which includes examples of over 70 evaluations conducted around the region

Bristol Partnership Evaluation Reference Group (ERG) is a recently formed sub-group of the Local Strategic Partnership ‘The Bristol Partnership’ for which it provides support and expertise in relation to evaluating the urban regeneration initiatives for which it is responsible.

Plymouth Monitoring and Evaluation Group (PMEDG) is a recently formed group which helps provide a strategic direction to the development of a 'monitoring and evaluation culture' in the city. It is comprised of local evaluation practitioners, representatives of key funding bodies and service providers.

Somerset Health & Care Community Evaluation Unit is a not for profit organisation which specialises in carrying out evaluation for providers of community, voluntary and public services.

University of the West of England Cities Research Centre is a research group of the University who specialise in theoretical and applied urban and regional research.

Community Enterprise Unit (CEU) is an Exeter-based social enterprise delivering high quality business advice, support and training to social enterprises and partners in the social economy. In terms of monitoring and evaluation, CEU promotes social accounting - a framework which enables organisations to measure their impact in terms of their social, economic and environmental objectives. CEU has worked with both local authorities and regeneration programmes support their monitoring and evaluation of programmes, partnerships and initiatives.
