The challenge of presenting evidence in a meaningful way faces us all at some time whether for a simple report or for some analysis of a problem or service. We have included some links here to resources you may find useful to consult when considering how to present your evidence effectively.

Presenting Data - LGDU Guide

The Welsh Local Government Data Unit have produced a simple, usable good practice guide to presenting data in a way it will be easily understood. Produced as performance management guidance, the paper sets out some clear principles that will assist with presentation and aid the understanding of data - and hence, the overall message you're trying to communicate.

Resources for best practice in disseminating statistics - ARO

A recent event run by the Association of Regional Observatories (ARO) looked at the issue of presenting statistics. Slides and resources from that event can be downloaded from their website.

The Visual Display of Quantitative Information (Edward Tufte)

If you really want to explore the art of presenting information effectively, then the man to read is Edward Tufte. His book 'The Visual Display of Quantitative Information' is considered the classic book on statistical graphics, charts, tables. Theory and practice in the design of data graphics, containing illustrations of the best (and a few of the worst) statistical graphics, with detailed analysis of how to display data for precise, effective, quick analysis. Design of the high- resolution displays, small multiples. Editing and improving graphics. The data-ink ratio. Time- series, relational graphics, data maps, multivariate designs. Detection of graphical deception: design variation vs. data variation. Sources of deception. Aesthetics and data graphical displays.
