Theatre Royal Plymouth's Production and Education Centre

The Theatre Royal has developed an excellent reputation for producing some of the largest and most popular theatrical productions in the UK, but its task has been difficult due to constraints of the current workshop space and rehearsal facilities.

The Theatre Royal Plymouth and its funding bodies have aspired to alleviate the practical problems and create a new centre which will have the added benefit of allowing all members of the community to become involved in the process of making theatre. The new centre, now known as TR2, is an unrivalled facility that will not only be capable of building large-scale productions but also rehearsing them too, all under one roof. This will offer directors and entire creative teams the space and support to meet the challenge of creating a modern theatrical production which will also encourage and enhance the cultural and economic activity in the region.

The 37,450 square-feet waterfront building, constructed on reclaimed land, spearheading a regeneration project currently underway in the Cattedown area of East Plymouth, cost £8.2 million to build was designed by Ian Ritchie Architects and is the first of its kind in Europe.
