The Prime Minister Tony Blair, was the surprise special guest at the launch of the Sustainable Communities Summit in Manchester this evening.
The Prime Minister praised the work of John Prescott in getting the issue of sustainability onto the government's agenda. He also showed a real enthusiasm for the work of people who are delivering sustainable communities "on the ground".
The Summit, which will run through until Wednesday and over 1900 delegates are expected to attend.
