News From Creating Excellence: Creating Excellence - Regeneration and Renewal
Creating Excellence - the South West's Regeneration and Renewal Centre has been set up partly in response to a white paper published by the Government's Urban Task Force - led by Lord Rogers in 1999 - and also in response to the social, economic and environmental regeneration / renewal needs of the South West. One of the recommendations made in the white paper was to create regional 'Centres of Excellence' to share skills and knowledge so that regeneration and renewal programmes bring lasting benefits for all.

Executive Director, Dominic Murphy
There are four key areas in which creating excellence operates. The Centre:
- Encourages learning in regeneration and renewal. This will provide lasting benefits for people and communities - by enabling opportunities for sharing information and know-how, and learning new skills
- Stimulates best design in a built environment which meets the needs of individuals and communities, both now and in the future
- Promotes efficient use of renewal funding resources and encourages all those with an interest in funding to work more closely together
- Promotes and develops services which make networking in the region more effective and efficient
