Evidence: GIS information sharing systems - national review
The Home Office has just published a report which may be of interest about data sharing systems using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The report reviews a number of systems from across the country summarising strengths and weaknesses of different approaches. Ideal if you are setting up or developing such an approach to sharing and analysing data locally.
GIS-based information sharing systems have been implemented in many of England and Wales' Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs). This review of systems identifies how these systems can best be used to support the business functions of CDRPs, and the lessons learned from existing systems, and notes common weaknesses across the systems. It also sets out guidelines on how they should be further developed. At present, there are in excess of 20 major systems distributed across England and Wales. A representative sample of ten systems was reviewed.
