Design: Design and Historic Environment Champions

Creating Excellence and the Architecture Centre, supported by CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) and English Heritage, are working together to develop a support network for Design and Historic Environment Champions in local authorities, development partnerships, and urban regeneration companies across the South West Region, as part of our effort to raise design quality and share best practice.

This activity reflects the view from a recent English Heritage meeting for Historic Environment Champions which highlighted the need to strengthen the network and to develop suitable support mechanisms.

The development work for the network is being undertaken by the Architecture Centre.  A survey has been sent out to contacts and potential Design and Historic Environment Champions across the South West to build up a picture of the range of skills and knowledge that already exists across the region.  Following analysis of the results of the survey a series of events will be organised to enable Champions to meet, and to develop their skills further.

The programme will provide members with access to the Resource for Urban Design Information (RUDI).  It will also enable those involved to network and discuss design issues both at events and through virtual facilities on the Creating Excellence web site.

For more information please contact the Architecture Centre on 0117 922 1540.

The development of the network is being funded by CABE and activity will continue as part of Creating Excellence's Design South West programme.
