News From Creating Excellence: Creating Excellence - no closure

Since the election there has been a constant stream of announcements detailing the impact of the Coalition's £120 bn cut in public expenditure.

The sheer scale of the reduction in public expenditure, coupled with the extent of the changes already announced, has not surprisingly fed a feverish rumour mill, leading to dire predictions of closure for almost all organisations operating at the regional level including, apparently, Creating Excellence.

However, the truth is that this is not the case for many of us regional ‘bodies'. In the case of Creating Excellence, the Board is dedicated to continue to support local practitioners, paid and unpaid by providing access to a wide variety of learning opportunities. At present we are writing our plan for 2011/14 which we intend to launch in December.  We intend to stick around!

Creating Excellence is keen to offer support to local practitioners working to deliver the ‘Big Society'.

Creating Excellence, though once an RDA project, has been an independent organisation since October 2004 and a company limited by guarantee, trading as a social enterprise since August 2007. Contrary to recent rumours we are not ‘part of the RDA' and as such will not be forced to close when the RDA ceases its activities.

We believe that much of what people have been doing at the local level, for good and bad, can and must inform the development of the government's two major policy ‘planks' of Localism and Big Society. Our Spring conference chose localism as its theme and the work we have been doing for Communities and Local Government under the banner of Empowering Communities is highly relevant to the new Big Society thinking.

So, in the interests of clarity, and in order to respond to rumours currently circulating, we would like to make it clear that Creating Excellence intends to carry on providing services to people in our area working on all forms of area based sustainable economic development. We are not closing!

No doubt our offer to our clients will change to enable them to rise to the new challenges laid down by a new government; more about that later in the year.

Our next public event will be in November, when we will be teaming up with Take Part to hold a conference highlighting our work on Community Empowerment.
