Empowering Communities: National Online Community for Engagement and Empowerment

This online community of practice supported by IDeA is a place to share experiences, seek advice from others and to keep up to date with current thinking, practice and policy in community engagement and empowerment.

It already has more than 700 like-minded members (including officers in local authorities, police, health, elected members and people working in the private and voluntary sectors).

Coming soon to a screen near you:

Hot seats: leading thinkers write about their views, with the chance to discuss and debate with them for a week.  The autumn 2009 season includes:

  • Neil Davies Chief Executive of Medway Council
  • Edward Andersson from Involve
  • Bobby Duffy from Ipsos Mori
  • Politicians from the main parties
  • Events: a diary of engagement-related training and conferences from across the country

Library: tools, research reports, policy documents and much more.  Newly added to the library this week is 'Getting Engaged', an article published exclusively this week on the CoP looking at the consequences of not empowering communities.  You can add your favourite documents to the library or review what's there.

Wiki: ever found that the terms and words used around empowerment are hard to define?  Join the discussion and contribute to the ‘meanings and definitions' wiki

Forums: a place to share your views, ask questions, post your news and discuss consultations

Network of Empowering Authorities: hear about the work being developed by the 18 network authorities, the resources they are developing and watch videos on themes such as working with neighbourhoods and building the business case for empowerment
