News From Creating Excellence: Barton Hill Settlement wins national award for Bridging Cultures

The Barton Hill Settlement's People's Hive, East Bristol, recently won a national award for its work in promoting intercultural dialogues and building community bridges.

The awards, presented by the Institute for Community Cohesion and the Baring Foundation, are for grassroots schemes and projects, run by community and voluntary organisations that help to build bridges between communities and cultures.

An action plan was developed to address problems arising in Barton Hill resulting from changes in communities; including cultural awareness training, multi-cultural events, residents' training and workshops and a "play ranger project" which helped to create a more inclusive environment in the area.
