Previous News: Local authority regeneration progress database now online - & gets thumbs up...

Jeff Rooker, Minister for Regeneration in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, has welcomed the recent launch of a web-based tool, making data on regeneration progress more accessible.

Floor Targets Interactive (FTI) is a web-based e-Government system available via the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit website at http://www.neighbourhood.gov.uk for all those with an interest in the progress of deprivation-related Public Service Agreement (PSA) Floor Targets. It represents part of the ODPM's commitment to ensuring the use of evidence-based policy and delivery in order to narrow the gap between the most disadvantaged areas and the average.

FTI is built on publicly available data that has been brought together from the Government departments that 'own' the Floor Targets. Floor targets represent the minimum standard the government expects local authorities to achieve in relation to the key public services they provide.

Jeff Rooker said:
"ODPM is committed to ensuring that regeneration activities are based on sound evidence of what works. Floor Targets Interactive will enable all those involved in neighbourhood renewal to identify priority areas, monitor progress, and compare themselves with others”.

FTI contains data for all of England's local authorities down to district level, although the focus is on the 88 most disadvantaged areas that receive Neighbourhood Renewal Funds. The system is built on data that is already publicly available, but has been brought together from the government departments responsible for improving health, employment, crime, education and housing. FTI makes this existing data more accessible and provides a mapping tool so the user can create visual aids.

FTI will be useful to those working at all levels to meet Floor Targets. It will be of particular interest to regeneration practitioners, who will be able to identify their position and progress in relation to other areas with similar characteristics as they develop their own policies.

FTI has been developed by ODPM's Tackling Disadvantage Group.
