Prescott announces Summit speakers

On the 14 September 2004 the Deputy Prime Minister announced details of the Delivering Sustainable Communities Summit, including naming some world experts who have agreed to give keynote presentations to this unique forum.

The Summit, which will be the largest event of kind in the UK, is being held in one of Manchester's most historic buildings, the G-MEX Conference Centre and will run from 31 January to 2 February 2005.

Hosted by the Deputy Prime Minister and supported by senior Ministers from across Government, the event is expected to attract 2,000 delegates from the UK and overseas. Leading TV broadcaster, Nick Ross will be chairing the three-day Summit.

John Prescott said the Summit will be unlike any other event on the calendar, a unique forum where key people delivering sustainable communities will come together to discuss achievements and what's still to be done.

"The Delivering Sustainable Communities Summit will look at the impact of national and global trends, share best practices from across the world and provide a platform to work with leading experts from the public, voluntary and private sectors."

"It has attracted some of the very best expert speakers from the UK and overseas, including Mercedes Bresso, MEP and former president of Turin, John Norquist and Norman Rice from the USA, Sir Peter Hall, Director of Community Studies and Councillor Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council. I will be updating this impressive list of speakers during the coming months."

The draft programme offers delegates an opportunity to go out on site visits, take part in a welcome reception on the first day, attend thought provoking plenaries, workshops and expert master classes, and showcase their organisation to a world-class audience through the Summit's vibrant exhibition.

A delegate dinner will also be held on the Tuesday evening, which will host the Deputy Prime Minister's Award for Sustainable Communities. TV Presenter/Designer Kevin McCloud will host the Award ceremony.
