ASC has launched a major study into the skills shortages that impair and threaten the successful delivery of sustainable communities. The study will provide comprehensive information on current and projected labour shortages and generic skills gaps in the core sustainable communities occupation. 95 per cent of manufacturing firms face skills shortages | |

Results of National Employers Skills Survey 2003: SEMTA Ninety-five per cent of manufacturing and engineering companies report an impact on their businesses due to skills shortage vacancies. On top of this, the volume of skills gaps (where staff aren't proficient) far exceeds recruitment difficulties. Core role signalled for centres of excellence | |

England's regeneration centres of excellence must receive greater recognition from key players in education and training if they are to succeed, the government has been warned.
Dominic Murphy, executive director of the south west's £3m centre, Creating Excellence, and a former ODPM adviser, said the learning needed to deliver sustainable communities should run through the core of education.
