National Centre goes to Leeds! | |

The Deputy Prime Minister announced today that the new National Centre for Sustainable Community Skills will be located in Leeds. John Prescott used the first session of the Sustainable Communitites Summit today to announce that he had decided the new national skills centre for sustainable communities will be in Leeds. He also announced a new name for the centre, The Academy for Sustainable Communities (ASC).

Prime Minister opens summit | |

The Prime Minister Tony Blair, was the surprise special guest at the launch of the Sustainable Communities Summit in Manchester this evening. The Prime Minister praised the work of John Prescott in getting the issue of sustainability onto the government's agenda. He also showed a real enthusiasm for the work of people who are delivering sustainable communities "on the ground".
The Summit, which will run through until Wednesday and over 1900 delegates are expected to attend.

On the 13th of January 2005 the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister came to Exeter! The reason for the visit? They wanted to consult with the region over plans to establish a national centre for sustainable communities skills which will help people involved in regeneration and sustainable communities work.
